When my father was younger, he lived in Brazil in South America. His family wasn't considered a rich family at all. In fact, he never owned a television even when all of his neighbors and friends had owned their own television. His house was small and consisted of only two bedrooms even though he had four siblings. The walls were made of bamboo and the ceilings leaked every single time that it rained.
